Major Pet food recall

If you haven’t heard, but there is a major pet food recall (Read Here) , of over 50 major name brand cat and dog food.

“Menu Foods is recalling several brands including such well-known names as Nutro, Iams, and Eukanuba.

Two other companies, Nestle Purina Petcare Company and Hills Pet Nutrition are also voluntarily recalling some of their products.

This recall affects the “cuts and gravy” style wet pet food with packaging marked December 3 through March 6. “

Unfortunately, my cat, was one of the affected, and oddly enough, I had posted here, a short description of the symptoms a few weeks prior to  the actual recall. The symptoms I described were exactly identical to the common signs of a dying animal. I had fed her one of the brands listed, and fortunately for me, I had saved the blood test results and it does in fact show that she passed from symptoms that look like cancer (a rupturing tumor is what the vet guessed initially), but in fact,  after speaking to the veternarian, he did conclude that she passed from liver poisoning, at a young age. I intend to pursue this legally now.

WhatsonMyBookshelf.com and Free E-Book s

A nerdy but cool website that Ive been using (and should have been spreading the news)  is www.whatsonmybookshelf.com . The website is a networking and trading website allowing you to get books by a simple point system. You register for the website (which is free) and register what books you currently have and want to trade with other users. You recieve points by the amount of books and for successful trades.  It’s a very simple site to use, and you can get all your FAQ’s answered HERE. If your like me and read a lot of books, then this works very well, and allows you to read new material for just the cost of shipping a book via standard mail (usually like a $1.12) or less. You can keep the book if you want (take it off your trading list) but I would read it, and send it off.  If your a little more high tech, have a PocketPC, or Palm Pilot, or any portable multimedia device ( even an Ipod ), you can use this website here for free e-books, in either HTML or with a little tech knowledge you can covert them to PDF, or Rich Text Format. There are by default able to be read by a Palm Pilot or Microsoft Reader. I was able to use a free open source software for my Ipod and am able to read on my Ipod, but in reality, I never used it,  I just wanted to see if its possible, but I guess if you don’t have a Palm Pilot or a new Motorola Q (or blackjack/blackberry etc)….then this will work.

Vista Media Center Codecs

The best option to play a lot (but not all) video file formats, is the K-Lite mega codec pack which can be downloaded by clicking HERE. Make sure to disable all FF filters, seems to crash Media Center. As well as download quicktime alternative (plays .MOV files in Windows Media Player) HERE. You may want to try out Theorica Codec Packages located here as well, Ive had successes with it in the past witn Windows XP Media Center, download page is HERE . There is a Nemo Codec package, which is usually good as well, but cannot be installed with the K-lite Mega Pack installed. You can download the Nemo Codec package HERE . I have yet to find a full singular package solution that would allow me to play all file formats within Windows Vista Media Center.  Playing within the new media center can be a very frustrating time, it frequently crashes, and for some reason , “between screen” load times are horrible, even on a system that qualifies high on the new Microsoft rating system. Next week I’ll see if I can get plugins for XP Media Center to work within Vista’s Media Center.

Shitty Day

Posting this a few days after, but I came home from work on Friday and my cat, that Ive had for about 13 years, is dead, shittiest part though, is she had dragged a t-shirt of mine into the bathroom where I found her, and passed away on top of it. I had taken her to the veternarian a few days prior because she was not eating well, and had been really lethargic, they ran blood tests, xray-s, and something like a sonogram. Im having her creamated.

Funny thing about it all is, that I don’t really like cats, I never really have, but I ended up keeping Yosh for some weird reason…kiddo kinda grew on me. No more pets for me for a while
