Ok so your sitting there wondering the hell this long string of digits mean, and what kind of nerdy shit it this?…or maybe you just don’t care, well then navigate away. The string of numbers up there the HD-DVD Processing Key for most HD (high definition) movies released so far. So you ask, “well I don’t understand why that’s important at all?” Here’s why… If your old enough you probably remember the whole transition from VHS to DvD (actually it was VHS to laserdisk, then to DvD). The transition was mainly due to higher video quality, but also it was to prevent people from copying their VHS tapes since it was (at the time) impossible to copy a DvD, since burners were not mainstream until several years later.

Well that time has come around again, but this time, the push is more of a marketing ploy based on (again) better picture quality. However, it doesn’t take a genius to figure out that with stores like Netflix and unlimited rentals for $30.+/- at Blockbuster, you can easily rent, then burn a copy, send it back, over and over, as long as you want. So the main reason really becomes, again, they (MPAA) doesn’t want you copying DvDs. So out comes HD-DvD, which supposedly offered an uncrackable protection system. Yah right, that lasted a whole couple days. So that code up above, is what a programmer would need in order to create a small modular program (in linux) and eventually PC + Macs that would allow you to burn, and view HD-DvDs. For now it’s just linux, until someone ports it over to another operating system. Right now, it’s just a code to playback on Linux ….which even I a linux user, wouldn’t watch on my Linux box…but hey, Im along for the cause.

Well publishing the code should immediately get me a cease and desist for copyright infringement, but me being a open source software promoter, I disagree, that a sequence of numbers cannot have a copyright, and well if I am wrong then oh well, at least I tried to stand up for something I believe in.

Now eventually with changes and revisions, that code will most likely become obsolete within a few weeks, but that won’t stop or deter people from always finding another measure around to copy, backup, or view their HD-DvDs.

Don’t be a retarded bandwagon consumerist, grab your balls (females can pretend 🙂 ) and stand up for what you want..and shit…this is the internet, people don’t even have to see you…so why not do it. You could be part of a Digital Revolt!
